 25/03/2022

I contacted my focus group with three questions:

Which lifestyle magazines do you read?

The two most common magazines read by my focus group are Cosmopolitan (read by four of the female readers and one of the male readers) and GQ (read by three of the male readers).

How well do you feel lifestyle magazines cater to your age group?

The cosmopolitan readers felt well catered to as the magazine has different sections that appeal to a wide range of interests for both younger and older audiences

The older GQ readers felt catered to, but the younger readers felt the magazine sometimes focused on more mature topics that were not to their interest.

What do you feel is missing that would make them more enjoyable for your age group?

The readers explained that in order to make it more enjoyable they should display more younger people in their magazines to make it more relatable to their age groups. They also felt that focusing on environmental topics would be educational and also appeal to the younger audiences too.

Conclusions:

For my magazine have decided to focus on Cosmopolitan as it has a wider appeal with it focusing on more of a variety topic, I will also include younger models and stories of young upcoming artists to cater towards the younger audiences. I will also show diverse social groups particularly different sexualities to make it inclusive for everyone and to target a typically left-wing younger audience.
